The Design of the Litelok Gold

This was the first lock of this type that we had encountered, so we weren’t entirely sure what to expect from the Litelok Gold. This bike lock has been designed so that it can be worn around the hips. The material is rather interesting. It is Boaflexicore which is a mixture of high-tensile metal and polymer composite.

We expected the material of the lock to feel a little flimsy like fabric and did wonder how this would work as a secure lock. Thankfully our assumptions were wrong, and the material that this bike lock is constructed from is very durable indeed. Just by taking a close look at it, it was clear to see that this lock would be hard to break.

Although the design is very different to anything that we have seen before, we were very impressed with it, especially with the strength of the material that it is made out of.

Using the Litelok Gold

Again, because we hadn’t really seen anything like this before, we weren’t sure what to expect from using the Litelok Gold. To explain things better, this is supposed to be worn like a belt. It is available in small, medium and large, so most people will be able to choose the right size for them.

It did take us quite some time to figure out how this bike lock should be used. So, you wear it around your hips. Attached to the lock is a lock stopper. This is used so that you can fasten the lock to yourself without actually activating the locking mechanism of the lock itself. Once you wish to use the lock, it is simply a matter of removing the lock stopper.

We had no trouble actually using the lock itself; it was simply a matter of clicking it closed. The lock is provided with three keys on a keyring so when you want to remove the lock, you simply unlock it and you are ready to place it back onto your hips and start your return journey.

The Portability of the Litelok Gold

This is where we had a few issues with the Litelok Gold. As you can imagine, something that is designed to be worn is going to be a lot more portable than the standard bike lock that you will find on the market. However, we did feel that the weight of the lock was a little heavier than expected.

Whilst this definitely wouldn’t be an issue for shorter commutes, we did notice that on longer rides we could certainly feel the weight of the lock around the hips. This isn’t necessarily a problem, but it could be quite uncomfortable after a while.

Obviously, there is the option to carry the lock in a backpack or saddle bag, but that kind of defeats the object of this lock. Overall, however, we were fairly impressed with this lock. It is a little more expensive than we would have liked, and there are issues with the weight of it. But it is a great design idea and with a few improvements it would be a brilliant product.
